AmeriCorps Members: Case Management Positions

AmeriCorps is a Federal National Service program that matches interested individuals with opportunities to serve those in need for a one-year period. This program offers people with compassion the opportunity to learn and practice Case Management, professional skills in serving people being assisted by nonprofit agencies. A stipend and various benefits are provided. All positions last for one year and are of three types, full-time (FT, 1700 hours per year), half-time (HT, 900 hours per year), and reduced half-time (RHT, 675 hours per year).
Refugee Services of Texas (RST) serves displaced people, foreign and domestic. AmeriCorps Members will provide help for survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, preparedness for future disasters, and recruitment of a body of volunteers. Positions are located at our five Texas offices in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, and Amarillo and are distributed as follows.
• Houston: 2 FT, 6 HT, 3 RHT
• Dallas: 2 HT
• Fort Worth: 2 HT
• Austin: 2 HT
• Amarillo: 1 RHT
Stipend and benefits:
Living Allowance: $12,000/yr FT, $5,000/yr HT, $2,000/yr RHT
Education Award: $4,725 FT, $2,363 HT, & $1,800 RHT (can be used for future education or to repay student loans up to 7 years after AmeriCorps service)
Paid Health Insurance: FT only

Position description: Case Manager
Provide compassionate service for clients displaced by disasters: devise recovery plans in conjunction with clients for immediate, short-term, and long-term needs, referring to job training and employment counseling, helping clients enroll for public benefits, and ensuring affordable, stable housing
Develop disaster preparedness plans, collaborating with other service providers and securing and organizing resources for disaster preparedness
Organize a group of volunteers, recruiting and training them for serving displaced people and developing them for disaster preparedness
Requirements:
At least seventeen years old
High school diploma or GED or plan to obtain one before using education award
U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident alien
Desire to service, one-on-one, individuals and families in need
Willingness to learn to collaborate for resources, to plan disaster preparedness, and to develop a group of volunteer
Ability to make a one-year commitment
Ability or desire for strong organizational skills
